FSQ Spatial Studio
FSQ Spatial Studio provides an intuitive, interactive platform for geospatial data visualization and analysis, designed for users who want to create compelling maps and spatial insights through streamlined workflows. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to get started with the platform, from account creation and data upload to creating interactive maps and sharing your spatial discoveries.
Key Components
FSQ Spatial Studio is built around several interconnected components that facilitate a comprehensive geospatial analysis workflow:
- Datasets: Individual data files or collections that serve as the foundation for your spatial analysis. Datasets can include various spatial data formats and are enhanced through the platform's data management capabilities, including column creation and filtering.
- Maps: Powered by Kepler.gl, Maps are interactive visualization canvases that allow you to display spatial data through various visualization types including points, clusters, heatmaps, and custom styling. Maps serve as both analytical tools and presentation mediums for your spatial insights. Within Maps, you can work with:
- Layers: Individual data representations that can be customized independently. Each dataset becomes a layer that can be styled, filtered, and configured with different visualization properties such as fill color, radius, and layer type.
- Analysis Tools: Built-in capabilities for data transformation, filtering, and spatial analysis including column creation, geographic filtering through drawing tools, and interactive selection mechanisms.
- Analysis Tools: Built-in capabilities for data transformation, filtering, and spatial analysis including column creation, geographic filtering through drawing tools, and interactive selection mechanisms.
- Sharing & Publishing: Collaborative features that enable you to share your spatial insights through published maps with customizable visibility settings and public URLs for broader distribution.
Onboarding
Upon accessing FSQ Spatial Studio for the first time, you'll complete a streamlined onboarding process to set up your account and workspace. After completing the onboarding process, you'll land on the Spatial Studio dashboard, which provides a comprehensive overview of your projects, datasets, and maps, along with immediate access to core platform features for analyzing, charting, and exploring your spatial data.
Storage & Data Capabilities
FSQ Spatial Studio offers up to 1 GB of storage space to manage your artifacts such as Maps & Datasets.
Typical Workflow
FSQ Spatial Studio follows a logical progression that mirrors how map makers typically work. You begin by uploading and organizing your spatial data, create and customize interactive maps with multiple visualization options, enhance your analysis through filtering and data transformation, and finally share your insights through published maps and collaborative features.
-
To begin your spatial analysis journey, you'll first need to establish your account and access your workspace.Account Setup and Workspace Access- Navigate to the Spatial Studio homepage and click "Log in" in the top right corner
- If you don't have an account, click "Sign up" and enter your email address
- Set your password ensuring it meets the specified security criteria
- Verify your email by entering the confirmation code sent to your inbox
- Complete your profile by providing your name, company, and industry information
- Accept the required terms of service and privacy policy
- Upon first login, review and accept any additional terms of service to access the dashboard
-
Import your spatial data into the platform to begin your analysis.Data Management and Upload- From the dashboard, click on "Workspace" in the top navigation bar
- In the "Data Repository" section, click the "Add Dataset" button
- Drag and drop your spatial data files (CSV, GeoJSON, etc.) into the upload area
- Wait for the upload process to complete - uploaded files will appear in your "My Datasets" list
- Review your uploaded datasets to ensure proper formatting and data integrity
-
Transform your data into interactive visualizations through map creation.Map Creation and Layer Management- Select the datasets you wish to visualize by checking the boxes next to their names
- Click "Create Map" from the action bar to generate your initial map
- Your selected datasets will automatically load as map layers
- Click "Add Layer" to incorporate additional datasets into your existing map
- Rename your map by clicking the "Untitled" title and entering a descriptive name
-
Enhance your map's visual impact through comprehensive layer customization.Layer Customization and Styling- Fill Color Configuration: Select a layer and navigate to the "Fill Color" section. Choose to color based on data properties and select appropriate color scales
- Radius Adjustment: Modify the radius of data points, optionally scaling based on data field values to represent magnitude or importance
- Layer Type Selection: Change visualization types (e.g., from "Point" to "Cluster" for density visualization) and adjust parameters like cluster radius for optimal display
- Visual Enhancement: Apply additional styling options to improve readability and visual appeal
-
Expand your analytical capabilities through data transformation and filtering.Data Analysis and Enhancement- Column Creation: Navigate to the "Datasets" section, select your target dataset, and click "Add Column". Create calculated fields using expressions (e.g., Price/Landsize for price per unit area)
- Filter Application: Use the "Filters" section to add data filters, selecting datasets and fields for range-based filtering through interactive sliders
- Geographic Filtering: Utilize the "Draw on map" tool to create polygon boundaries, then right-click drawn shapes to filter layers based on geographic areas
- Data Validation: Review filtered results to ensure accuracy and relevance for your analysis objectives.
-
Make your maps more engaging and informative through interactive elements.Interactive Features and Annotations- Tooltip Activation: Enable tooltips in the "Interactions" section for information pop-ups when hovering over data points.
- Geocoder Integration: Activate the geocoder feature to enable location search functionality within your map
- Brush Tool Implementation: Enable the brush tool for selecting data points within defined radii, with adjustable brush size for precise selection
- Annotation Addition: Add contextual annotations by shift-clicking on the map, entering descriptive text, and customizing font, size, color, and background properties
-
Enhance your spatial analysis with complementary chart visualizations.Chart Integration and Summary Views- Click the "Summary" icon to access chart creation tools
- Configure summary titles and select appropriate datasets and fields for analysis
- Click "Add Chart" and choose from available chart types (bar charts, line charts, etc.)
