Will these account changes disrupt my existing integrations?
No, these changes are not intended to disrupt your existing integrations or services. If you find this is not the case, please reach out to us and we’ll be sure to get you back up and running ASAP.
Do I need to do anything to change my account to Pay As You Go?
We have automatically migrated your account. As always, your use of the Places API constitutes your acceptance of our Terms of Use, but you will need to affirmatively accept our new Terms of Service when you log in to the Developer Console on or after November 18. Once logged in, you will immediately see the changes in your account type reflected in the console.
Is my account being downgraded?
No, for all previous pricing tiers, our new Pay As You Go Foursquare Developer Account will boost and enhance your experience in our Developer Console and when integrating with our Places API.
I previously did not add any payment information to my account - do I now need to?
No, you are not being forced to add payment information to your account. Every account receives a $200 monthly usage credit that you are free to use, with or without a credit card. If your account uses up the entire free credit and you do not have payment information or a pre-loaded balance, you will not be able to make API calls until the next month’s free credit kicks in.
I previously did not pay to use Places API - do I now need to begin paying?
No, you are not being forced to pay to use the API. Every account receives a $200 monthly usage credit that you are free to use, with or without having a pre-loaded balance. If your account uses up the entire free credit and you do not have payment information or a pre-loaded balance, you will not be able to make API calls until the next month’s free credit kicks in.
What is the benefit of keeping a pre-loaded balance?
Maintaining a pre-loaded balance will ensure no disruptions occur and we will continue to provide API services to your integrations.
What is the benefit of automatic payments?
By setting up automatic payments, your pre-loaded balance will be topped off automatically when your balance drops below $10. The recharge amount will be a value of your choosing between $20 and $1000, and can be adjusted in the Manage Billing section of the Developer Console. This will ensure no disruptions occur and we will continue to provide API services to your integrations.
How does the monthly usage credit work?
On the 1st of every month, Foursquare will automatically distribute $200 in free usage credits to your account. These free credits do not roll over month-to-month, so we highly encourage you to use them!
