Placemaker XP System

What is XP?

XP (Experience Points) is how we track and reward your contributions to the Placemaker community. Every action you take — proposing edits, voting on community suggestions, and adding new places — earns XP toward your next level.

How do I earn XP?

By adding new places to the Placemaker map, proposing edits for our community to review, or voting on edits proposed by fellow Placemakers.

How does leveling work?

Your XP determines your Placemaker level. To level up, you'll need to:

  • Reach the XP threshold for your next level (shown in the XP widget)
  • Maintain a 95% accuracy rate on your contributions
  • Wait out the cooling off period between levels

Where do I see my XP?

Look for the XP widget in the top right corner of the Placemaker Tools it's now on every page and will show your total XP as it stands, plus your progress to achieving the next Placemaker level. Long time Placemakers and Foursquare users will notice XP has been granted based on their historical contributions.

Accuracy matters

Accurate contributions earn bonus XP. When an edit resolves and the community makes a decision, if your vote or proposal was correct, you'll receive an additional XP reward. If your contribution was incorrect, the original XP is removed.

This keeps our shared map reliable for the millions of people who depend on it.
